There have been competitions where I got on the line and psyched myself out before I even let myself compete. I was thinking about the other competitors and not giving myself a fair chance. I had to shift to thinking, ‘Just focus on yourself and doing what your coach has taught you to do.’
For me, it’s more important to bring my level up and make sure that I can compete against guys in the top 100 and top 50 instead of maybe being 120 or 130 and not being able to compete with those guys.
For some people, success is a zerosum game. They think that if they push other people out of the way, fewer people can compete with them. That’s one way of seeing the world. It’s dog eat dog. It’s, sadly, always going to be there.
You have to be ready to compete. Because lots of people dream that dream, to be the best at something. But are you ready to commit to the hard work that it takes to get there? For me, it just became a part of my life, and it was what it was. Another day, another basketball practice or another game.
I’m going to have to work it, compete for that starting spot, compete for that job. I’m willing to come in and work, willing to compete and go at people in practice so I can have that ability to start in the starting lineup.
When you compete with Wal-Mart, even if you think you’ve found a niche don’t ever become complacent.
If we are going to compete in this world we’re in today, there is no possible way we can do it with lowering expectations and dumbing down everything. Children are going to suffer, and families‘ hearts are going to be broken that their kids won’t be able to get a job in the 21st Century.
I’m not trying to stay in the same place and I’m not trying to compete with what’s currently in fashion. That would be dishonest. But, at the same time, I’m different and the music reflects that to some degree.
When I was young I wanted to be a gymnast. I used to compete at it, but then I grew too tall.
There’s a broad range of male rappers, so if they’re going out on a limb and they sound different, it’s okay, because we have 20 other rappers doing what the radio wants… as far as females, there aren’t as many, so if you want to compete, you have to sound just like this, because that’s the only thing hot right now.
It’s not easy when you lose Flamini, Hleb, Senderos, Gilberto, and Lehmann. When you lose all these players – and Flamini, for me, was the best player last year – it’s really difficult to compete against Chelsea, Man United, or Liverpool.
When I’m on planes, I’d talk to people and I’d tell them I compete in the X Games. Some would know what it was, but maybe half didn’t. But everyone knows about the Olympics. They’re really like the X Games for the world!
You never really think about what happens after the Olympics – you’re just like, ‘I want to compete. I want to do well’ and thinking about that. After it all happened, it was such a whirlwind. I’ve gotten to do so many amazing things. My favorite thing was getting into acting.
I guarantee you, yoga will compete with computers, music, sports, automobiles, the drug industry. Yoga will take over the world!
My wife and I don’t compete. We know each other’s preferences, and we work to provide those for each other. One will take over when the other is faced with something he or shedislikes. That’s what friends do.
A lot of these guys in ‘Fight Master’ will compete in Bellator and in mixed mart arts for quite some time.
On the weekend of the Olympic trials, I lashed out at someone I’m really close to. I’ve lashed out at my mum, my siblings. It’s so hard when all you want to do is compete, and your body‘s just denying you. But without my family, I’d be nothing.
My mom had started to go to work when I was nine or ten, so I was aware of women trying to find their own identities by working. But I was still influenced by men to such an extreme. I wanted to play their games and wanted to compete in their world and be like them.
My weaknesses are my jumps. The reason is that although I land them in practice, when I actually compete or perform, I should let my body go and stabilize my mind better. Also, I need to work on not letting negative thoughts and emotions get to me on the ice.
God creates us to compete. He creates us to win. It matters. But you’ve got no chance if you don’t do your best.
I was around 15 when I first wanted to compete in an Olympics. I even remember the first time I got to wear a GB kit as a junior. I’ve even kept it. It’s in my mum’s loft somewhere, probably gone mouldy by now.
I think that many centralbanks and financial authorities understand that any long term attempt to compete through an artificial depreciation of their currency will not be very effective in the long term.
Regardless of what the record is, what the score is, you always go out there and compete.
Consumers can choose from hundreds of channels today, including dozens for kids. At a time of dwindling resources, we don’t need to be subsidizing PBS. It’s time for Big Bird the mooch to compete with ‘Dora the Explorer’ and ‘Bob the Builder.’
You can’t win in any sport without heavily concentrating on revenue generation. You have to be relentless in that regard if you are going to be able to afford the kind of players you need to compete at the highest level.
I think speed climbing is kind of an artificial discipline. Climbers compete on the same holds and train on the same holds, which doesn’t have much in common with the climbing philosophy in my opinion.
I’m a competitive person by nature, and I have been in competitive companies, and I love to compete – joining a company where, certainly, there is a real fire in the belly to compete and bring that energy is something I look forward to.

I actually used to compete at show-jumping when I was a young’un.
I don’t think I was ever designed to be a ubiquitous worldwide star. I’m a singer-songwriter writing quite personal songs. You’re not supposed to chuck me on a stage with bells and whistles. There was a struggle ahead after that happened, and perhaps I was trying to write songs to compete in that arena.
You know, she was a girl. She was a female. And she wasn’t like, trying to compete in a man’s world and she wasn’t trying to be in a man’s position, she was just who she was. And I think that was like, a good thing.
I’ll be the first Australian to compete in the WWE.
The bottom line is that our kids deserve a brighter future. They deserve an opportunity to attend college, regardless of their wealth or class. And our economy needs an educated work force that can compete in the global race for jobs.
I was very hungry to compete internationally when I was 10 years old, and I was good enough to compete, so that part never made me afraid or worried at all. When I was at my peak, around 12 and 13, I won my junior national and senior national titles back to back.
Mitt – what I speak to Mitt Romney about is jobs. What I speak to Mitt Romney about is China, because he’s got a great view on China and how they’re trying to destroy our country by taking our jobs and making our product and manipulating their currency, so that it makes it almost impossible for our companies to compete.
Technology is driving the innovation. Technology is driving the creativity. Technology and the use of that is going to determine our workers’ ability to compete in the 21st century global marketplace.
A friend of mine who is in the publishing business knew I was writing a book, and he said, ‘Have you said anything yet about the good guy? Because I know you spendso much time with the bad guys.’ Because they’re fun. So then you have to make the good guy fun, in order to compete. That’s the challenge.
The Olympic Games are highly commercialised. They purport to follow the traditions of an ancient athletics competition, but today it is the commercial aspect that is most apparent. I have seen how, through sport, cities and corporations compete against each other for financial gain.
Consciousnessturns out to consist of a maelstrom of events distributed across the brain. These events compete for attention, and as one process outshouts the others, the brain rationalizes the outcome after the fact and concocts the impression that a single self was in charge all along.
It is easy to fall into despair thinking about all that is wrong with the world. The joys seems so small in comparison. Internet videos of catsriding Roombas just can’t compete with a father talking about how his dead 13-year-old son had wanted to be a pilot.
