Autobiographies give you the picture of the person behind the image on screen, because that’s never really you.
I’m a huge, huge fan of Blu-ray. I think the picture and the sound quality is just such a massiveimprovement, and I think for movies like ‘Event Horizon,’ where the image is a key part of that film, and also the sound, as well, in any scary movie is an important element.
What’s quote-unquote a ‘good’ lawyer, doctor, or whatever the profession is. And if you’re a male who grew up professionally in a male-dominated profession, then your image of what a good lawyer is a male image.
It’s particularly important for a young woman to be in control of her image – to a certain extent. I mean, there’s only so much you can do, because people take photos with you and then all of a sudden they pop up all over the place, they’re completely out of context and you have no control over how they’re used.
I think that’s something people need to convey because you see all these celebritymoms out there, and the perception is they can do it all, but they have sooo much help. A reflection of an exact image is the closest thing to you-so that you can see it-but it’s far enough away so that you really understand it. There is real life in this movie, but it hovers just an inchabovereality.

It’s incredibly difficult to keep a healthy body image in this business.
You’re a person a lot longer before and after you’re a professional athlete. People always say to me, ‘Your image is this, your image is that.’ Your image isn’t your character. Character is what you are as a person. That’s what I worry about.
From my side, I don’t put pressure on the director to cater to a certain image. I am happy to do different films, and I have to stick by my director. I like to completely surrender myself to the director – that way, I think, I don’t get to do the similar roles.
The bad boy image is something given to me by the media. I have been in relationshipsearlier, even for as long as three years. I am not saying I am a saint. I am like any other guy, I guess. Unfortunately, every time I even meet a person, it is reported as a link-up.
Holding on to things from the past is the same as clinging to an image of yourself in the past. If you’re the least bit interested in changing anything about yourself, I suggest you be brave and start letting things go.
In the age of television, image becomes more important than substance.
S. I. Hayakawa
The whole thing for me is that I did ‘Full House’ and ‘America’s Funniest Home Videos,’ and I look like a dentist, and I’m a dad. Being known as a dirtycomedian turned into this weird thing. It’s people’s image of me.
When someone says to you, ‘Oh, I don’t take a good picture,’ what they mean is they haven’t come to terms with how they look. They take a fine picture, it’s just that their image of how they think they look is not in touch with the reality.
I really fell in love with the art of making clothes when I was dancing on tour. Creating my stage image through clothes was a blast. I discovered a total sense for what cool chicks and rockin’ dudes like to wear. Total Skull is for those people. People that like to rock – total rock.
Sheri Moon Zombie

I don’t know whether these people are going to find themselves, but as they live their lives they have no choice but to face up to the image others have of them. They’re forced to look at themselves in a mirror, and they often manage to glimpse something of themselves.
The language of the moment or, as it were, the language of the order in which we live, is the image. I felt that if I wanted to commune with the public, I should best do so through the language of image. It’s a conscious embrace of a contradiction.
The different Ministries have to work more on the promotion of the country, to build Kosovo‘s public image. Concrete projects must be assembled, in order to activate our businessmen to have more contacts. We have to create a positive image about ourselves.
This camera works like photosynthesis. It is as if you were Xeroxing your own face. The pictures have such physicality: their surface is like fine leather, stained from chemicals. Each one has a body and is more than an image.
Women are problem solvers, and often we don’t get much credit for that because the typical image of a leader is someone who’s loud, obnoxious, chest-pounding. That’s not my vision of what true leadership is; true leaders are the ones who work with great commitment to get something done.
My poems always begin with a metaphor, but my way into the metaphor may be a word, an image, even a sound. And I rarely know the nature of the metaphor when I begin to write, but there is an attentiveness that a writer develops, a sudden alertness that is much like the feel of a fishbrushing against a hook.
Black lives matter, as a subset of all lives matter. So any injustices to a particular group must be addressed specific to that group but under the banner that all life is created in the image of God.
A lot of really good directors have a killer in them, as if they’d do anything to get that image. But that comes with the terrain and I don’t mind it.
I think some people think I’m, like, anti-label, and I’m not. I just wanted to sign a deal when the time was right. I’m anti being shot out of a rocket when you’re not ready and the songs and image aren’t there.
So I sat down with him and portrayed more the side of the character he needed to see. Which is what I do when I go in for an interview for a part I like. As much as you think you’re dealing with creative people, they see you for what your image is out there.
I actually think some of the rappers can help our image, because the thing I’m concerned about is the NBA’s image. I always want our image to be on the rise, and if the rappers can help young players get business-minded, then I’m all for it.
I think with most all of us, we want control of our image – it’s part of the work that we do.
For all my success with the Ramones, I carried around fury and intensity during my career. I had an image, and that image was anger. I was the one who was always scowling, downcast. I tried to make sure I looked like that when I was getting my picture taken.

I often think about image, and image is something that – but in truth, the real artistic process, as I’ve understood it, is 95 percent intuitive, like seat-of-the-pants, at-the-moment decisions that you can’t even explain, you know?
The plate at each point only sends back to the eye the simple colour imprinted. The other colours are destroyed by interference. The eye thus perceives at each point the constituent colour of the image.
I love the chocolate boy image. I love my heartthrob image.
Every now and again, something will pop into my head when I’m driving or I’m in the shower, you’ll just get an image and it stays with you. It doesn’t have to be much, it doesn’t have to be a story, it couldjust be an image. But it won’t leave your head and that’s when you know you’ve got something.
I do believe that the name, image, likeness for an individual is a fundamental right – that any individual controls his or her name, image and likeness – and I don’t believe that a student-athlete who accepts a grant-in-aid simply waives that right to his or her name, image, likeness.
People think I don’t like interviews but I don’t mind speaking about proper and interesting stuff. When it’s stupid stuff to build your image and you are told to mention this and mention that, I hate it.
Sometimes I’ll go by and there are a couple of swans, the next day it’s a few ducks. I’d like to stop there every day for a year and capture how it changes, then put it all together to create an incredible image of a traditional English scene.
Graeme Le Saux
Movies will always be movies, and you can never replace that feeling of when the lights go down and the image comes up.
At Cornell University, my professor of European literature, Vladimir Nabokov, changed the way I read and the way I write. Words could paint pictures, I learned from him. Choosing the right word, and the right word order, he illustrated, could make an enormousdifference in conveying an image or an idea.
Marvel has put out good product. DC has put out good product. Even Image has put out good product, as far as I’m concerned… although it’s few and far between. But it’s not getting recognized, no matter who’s doing it.
I remember finding a Houdini book at the library and seeing an image of him chained on the side of a building. He looked so intense and scary, and I couldn’t get that image out of my head. That started building up my love of magic.
The content of Saul Leiter’s photographs arrives on a sort of delay: it takes a moment after the first glance to know what the picture is about. You don’t so much see the image as let it dissolve into your consciousness, like a tablet in a glass of water.
It takes eight to ninemonths for a Berluti client to get a pair of custom-made shoes and it’s fine. I was always against see now/buy now, as I don’t think it’s relevant to what we do and is not a good image of luxury.
I never had to do anything specific to craft my ‘image.’ I wanted people to know that I was a goofball, that I didn’t take myself too seriously, and that I love what I do. On my Twitter and Instagram, whenever I can, I try and show myself. I’m not trying to be an Instagram model.
I don’t want fame as far as the tweeting or the image of it. But, the idea of being famous is actually exciting to me, just because then you can have a choice in what you do. I would like to be at a point where I’m not asking for parts anymore, and I’m actually just choosing between a part that I want to do.
I simply think that water is the image of time, and every New Year’s Eve, in somewhatpagan fashion, I try to find myself near water, preferably near a sea or an ocean, to watch the emergence of a new helping, a new cupful of time from it.
This image of wanting to be an artist – that I would in some way become an artist -was very strong. I knew for a long, long time that that’s what I would be. But nothing I ever did seemed to bring me any nearer to the condition of being an artist. And I didn’t know how to do it.
Integrity is not a conditional word. It doesn’t blow in the wind or change with the weather. It is your inner image of yourself, and if you look in there and see a man who won’t cheat, then you know he never will.

The thing about Hitchcock which is quite extraordinary for a director of that time, he had a very strong sense of his own image and publicizing himself. Just a very strong sense of himself as the character of Hitchcock.
Whatever it takes to get the image to reach that level is what that photographer needs to do. And for me, I just have such a love of the tactile and sensuous quality of a black and whitesilver gelatin print.
Notoriously outspoken, his sentences always punctuated with profanities, General George S. Patton was the epitome of what a leader should be like – or so he thought. Patton believed a leader should look and act tough, so he cultivated his image and his personality to match his philosophy.
Drag is great way to get people to pay attention to me, but it’s a difficult way to get people to take me seriously as a musician. So it’s a weird Catch-22. It’s like a gimmick that gets them to pay attention, but when they see my image, they’re like, ‘There’s no way this is going to have any legitimacy to it.’
I make no apologies in admitting that I take very seriously the dehumanizing dangers in our tendency in modern science to make man over into the image of the machine, into the image of the techniques by which we study him.
Nothing can be compared to the great beauty and capabilities of a soul; however keen our intellects may be, they are as unable to comprehend them as to comprehend God, for, as He has told us, He created us in His own image and likeness.
Happy to see that the Automobile Club of Monaco, opened its doors to the public to attend a considerable event. The promotion of this event will be made by the image and by the text, but still by word of mouth.

In 1970 I realized that there was negligible risk from x-rays but many radiographs had poor image quality so that the risk from a false negative was significant.
As I came to New York, it was for me a new beginning. To discover what people are living here. What do they need, what do they expect, what would they like to be the image and the performance of the New York Philharmonic?
I find a lot of things kind of funny and I often say what’s on my mind, and then get nine texts from all my friends going, ‘What’s the matter with you?’ But I haven’t ever made a big attempt to have any particular image. And I don’t really worry about it. If it’s funny, I don’t care.
The camera is no more an instrument of preservation, the image is.
We all have something about ourselves that we’d change if we could in a perfect world, be it our body image, our financialstatus, our relationship, whatever. I wanted to talk about how nobody’s exempted from the realities of life and all those things.
I don’t buy these ragmagazines that feed off of stolen, you know, press. They’re basically stealing someone’s image in order to make money for themselves… They wait at the end of my street in their cars. Every time I exit my home, I have company.
When I started working in film, I loved photography, I loved the image, I loved telling the story within a frame, but as I started playing around with film and video, it was like, ‘Oh my god.’ You just have so much more to play with.
As with sound, images are subjective. You and I may not see the same color red as red, but we will probably agree that the image on the screen is a digital image or film image, based on contrast, bit depth, and refresh rate.
I beat myself up the whole time because I’m striving for something I’ll basically never achieve. I portray this image of confidence, of arrogance, and it’s not really me. I’m never satisfied, and I’m never content. It means I’m a bit of a mess some of the time.
For the resolving powers of our scientific instruments decide, at a given moment, of the size and the vision of our Universe, and of the image we then make of ourselves.
We all have a social mask, right? We put it on, we go out, put our best foot forward, our best image. But behind that social mask is a personal truth, what we really, really believe about who we are and what we’re capable of.
I think the world is very much embracing this whole concept of musicians going out and playing their instruments and playing music for music as opposed to music that has something to do with some form of image or imagery.
I didn’t really know anything about Margot Fonteyn. I’d never really been a ballet child, so I had no idea what an incredibly huge icon she was, not just in terms of a creative icon – she was also a style icon. I had no idea she was up there with Audrey Hepburn and Jackie Onassis in terms of that kind of image.
Man is important in one sense only. He was made in the image of God: That is his importance. He is not important for his body, ego, or personality. His constant affirmation of ego-consciousness is the source of all his problems.
When we make the cerebral state the beginning of an action, and in no sense the condition of a perception, we place the perceived images of things outside the image of our body, and thus replace perception within the things themselves.
By the life we live through the grace of Christ, the character is formed. The original loveliness begins to be restored to the soul. The attributes of the character of Christ are imparted, and the image of the Divine begins to shine forth.
The Internet doesn’t always play a great role for art, especially art in the street, as people take what they see for the final image of it. But the most interesting thing about street art is to see it for real, to understand what it means and where it’s displayed.
The popular image that Hollywood is ruined by difficult prima donna actors is nonsense. They’re certainly very nice to directors. I can’t say the same about producers, who I found difficult, paranoid, and certifiably insane, mostly.
Also, they don’t understand – writing is language. The use of language. The language to create image, the language to create drama. It requires a skill of learning how to use language.
Although humans see reality in colour, for me, black and white has always been connected to the image’s deeper truth, to its most hidden meaning.
You come to me and it’s my job to make you look the best you can look. From an image point of view, would I prefer to dress Jude Law instead of Rolf Harris? Of course. But it’s my job to make them both look great.
But what was interesting about what the Who did is that we took things which were happening in the pop genre and represent them to people so that they see them in a new way. I think the best example is Andy Warhol’s work, the image of MarilynMonroe or the Campbell‘s soup can.
I try to really capitalize off of what other rappers really can’t do. There are opportunities that rappers I love simply can’t get, because… you know… I don’t have the tattoos; I have a different image.
I saw the Count lying within the box upon the earth, some of which the rudefalling from the cart had scattered over him. He was deathly pale, just like a waxen image, and the red eyes glared with the horriblevindictive look which I knew so well.
I can understand there are things like shadows they need to fix after a shoot, but it’s unfair to represent an image of yourself if it’s not true. They’re gonna see what you look like on film anyway, so why try to cover all your wobbly bits in a photo?
I thought I’d better check this third plate, which is another date, see if there’s an image there in the right place that would be consistent with the images on the other plates. That was the final proof.
I suppose there are actors who are worried about their public image. But I’ve never had any trouble playing unpleasantcharacters. It is only a part. Which is why you do it -because you are interested in exploring something you never could or would be.
There’s stigmas attached to anything that makes you, in the public’s eye, seem weak. So of course, you know, you’re in a business where your image, and the way people perceive you, you are taught, is important.
I don’t believe in signinganything and everything that comes my way. I leave it to my agency to help narrow them down for me, but I do research it myself before signing. The image of the brand and its ambassadors go hand in hand.
I do think moms should be given a break, all across the board. And I think that the most important thing is that you’re healthy. After I had my little girl, I wanted to be healthy for her and have a healthy body image so that she hopefullygrows up to see that her self worth isn’t defined by how thin she is.
Words have great cumulative power, but in the 21st century, a single image is much stronger. An image suggests the unvarnished truth. That is its power and its fiction.
I think that lens flares can work really well under certain circumstances. Personally, I am trying to get rid of them most of the time. I don’t like artifacts that draw attention to the surface of the image.
As individuals and as a nation, we now suffer from social narcissism. The beloved Echo of our ancestors, the virgin America, has been abandoned. We have fallen in love with our own image, with images of our making, which turn out to be images of ourselves.
Daniel J. Boorstin
I went to Bruges for a weekend away from London. I was supposed to be meeting a girl there the next day. It was a tentative arrangement. From the moment I saw the town, I thought, ‘This place is just so cinematic, so gorgeous.’ Every corner seemed to offer a new image.
My father said, ’10 minus one is zero.’ It means that even if you do good things 10 times, it is no use when you do some bad thing once. But it doesn’t mean that I think I have positive image, so I always need to be careful about what I’m doing. I don’t want to frame myself.
The idea of a spiritual heart transplant is a vivid image to me; once you have the heart of somebody else inside you, then that heart is there. Jesus’ heart is inside me, and my heart is gone. So if God were to place a stethoscope against my chest, he would hear the heart of Jesus Christ beating.
You always want to look your best at events like the Globes, Emmys, or Oscars. It’s a part of the business that I am not particularly comfortable with. I would prefer to turn up in a pair of jeans and an old shirt, but it’s all about image – the studio wants you to look your best.
When I was young, watching historical movies made me feel absolutely sublime. But the first few times I visitedcostumemuseums, I was really disappointed because it was not at the level I saw in movies. It was not the level of the image I’d imagined.
I always have this image of a woman running across a desertcarrying children, trying to find water and food, not knowing when they’ll get that. And her feet are slashed up from the dry, hard earth… Even when I’m uncomfortable, sometimes in pain, or just cold… I think, ‘Thank God for what I’ve got.’
I had to go to a mirror and look at it. I couldn’t picture myself in my own head. I had no image beyond a stick figure. I wasn’t a mean person as a kid, or dumb, and something has to be said to justify excluding you.
Typecasting is an interesting thing because, in a way, if you’re good at something, you’re going to work at that thing. In other ways, you constantly have to change people’s opinion of you as one thing, especially if you want to play different roles. You have to shatter that image sometimes.
I think that you have to present an image that is… true to you, and… the way you would like to be perceived, so I think that through the years I’ve worked really hard at trying to create an image that is true to me.
The only thing about 3-D is the dullness of the image.
When you really need help, people will respond. Sincerity means dropping the image facade and showing a willingness to be vulnerable. Tell it the way it is, lumps and all. Don’t worry if your presentation isn’t perfect; ask from your heart. Keep it simple, and people will open up to you.
I realized that people had an unreal image of me, that somehow I was a god on Mount Olympus. I decided that if I were going to make use of my role as a Supreme Court Justice, it would be to inspire people to realize that, first, I was just like them and second, if I could do it, so could they.
The reason bin Laden staggered the planes going into the towers was so every camera would be focused on the second tower when the plane hit. It was not only the murder, but the perpetual image of the horror that permeated into people’s consciousness.
Leave my image alone… I will behave as I think I should and I will not change anything.
This society is driven by neurotic speed and force accelerated by greed and frustration of not being able to live up to the image of men and woman we have created for ourselves; the image has nothing to do with the reality of people.
When we look at our justice system, we have this image of a balancing scale: truth and justice, right and wrong. But for years, our system has been lopsided, where it’s not about truth and justice or balance. It’s about being tough on crime, and sometimes that means you’re putting the wrong person behind bars.
Fiction is a particular kind of rhetoric, a way of thinking that I think can be useful in your life. It asks you to image the world through someone else’s eyes, and it allows you to try to empathize with situations that you haven’t actually experienced.
He only half dies who leaves an image of himself in his sons.
Only two to three per cent of an audience is interested in words and pays attention to lyrics; most of the rest of it is about image or the beat or the sound, or else it’s a tribal thing – country & western, rap, heavy metal, with historical folk rock off in some kind of cult.
I grew up in a sport that didn’t allow you to grow up. There was always the threat of youngercompetition. So you had to maintain the image of youth.

Beijing‘s Olympics were very grand – they were trying to throw a party for the world, but the hosts didn’t enjoy it. The government didn’t care about people’s feelings because it was trying to create an image.
One drawing demands to become a painting, so I start to work on that, and then the painting might demand something else. Then the painting might say, ‘I want a companion, and the companion should be like this,’ so I have to find that, either by drawing it myself or locating the image.
We are visual creatures. When you doodle an image that captures the essence of an idea, you not only remember it, but you also help other people understand and act on it – which is generally the point of meetings in the first place.
Stabilizing the euro is one thing, healing the culture that surrounds it is another. A world in which material values are everything and spiritual values nothing is neither a stable state nor a good society. The time has come for us to recover the Judeo-Christian ethic of human dignity in the image of God.
I think my being such a nomad let me into acting. I was always having to create a new image whenever we moved.
The first moments of sleep are an image of death; a hazy torpor grips our thoughts and it becomes impossible for us to determine the exact instant when the ‘I,’ under another form, continues the task of existence.
Gerard De Nerval
People in the fashion industry have used the press a lot more than people in the film industry, because you have nothing to sell except for the image: The image is everything.
I am an American man, and in America, we still think of figure skaters as little girls in pretty, sparkly dresses – I worked very hard to change the perception and image of figure skating, and I think I’ve done a great job on my end, but in figure skating, taste needs to evolve.
In a time not distant, it will be possible to flash any image formed in thought on a screen and render it visible at any place desired. The perfection of this means of reading thought will create a revolution for the better in all our social relations.
The worst times were the years I was alone. The image to the public entering the courtroom was eight men, of a certain size, and then this little woman sitting to the side. That was not a good image for the public to see.
He’s part of the product and will make no bones about creating that image to bring the value up in his product, bring the value up in everything he touches.
I may worship the image of the Lord; but that act is worthless if it is not accompanied with devotion. In the absence of devotion, the idol will just be a piece of stone, and so shall I; and the worship will only mean that a stone is facing a stone!
I know I play into that image out there, but I try to say it is a fantasy. I look at my own pictures and wish I could look like that. There are probably five people in this whole entire world who actually look like that.
Any image I have, it’s just what I do, but it comes off as being very pretentious. When you’re a bit in the public astigmatism, anything you do seems like you did it so somebody would see you do it, like showing up at the right parties.
You know the AME Church has a history of empowering black people and having an international outlook. So it was the women of the church who began to give Sarah Breedlove an image of herself as something other than an illiterate washerwoman, and she wanted to make her life better, and her daughter’s life better.
There are hundreds of books about Woodrow Wilson, but I have an image of him in my mind that is unlike any picture I have seen anywhere else, based on material at Princeton and 35 years of researching and thinking about him.

It’s hard for me to assess what I brought because each time you pick up a camera and point it at a person, you’re trying to define that person so to talk generally is difficult because I have to think of a given image in order to conjure up what we’re talking about.
Whenever you’re going to play a real person, you run the risk of well, everybody in the world kind of has an image of what that person is and who he should be and so you really have to do your homework.

It is impossible to deny that Christians and Muslims have a common agenda here: both faiths have at their heart the living image of a community raised up by God’s call to reveal to the world what God’s purpose is for humanity.
Every time I rap about being a big girl in a small world, it’s doing a couple things: it’s empowering my self-awareness, my body image, and it’s also making the statement that we are all bigger than this; we’re a part of something bigger than this, and we should live in each moment knowing that.
This may sound a little harsh, but I don’t care about my career. Really, I don’t like actors who are always planning what they’re going to do next or always worrying about doing something that will go against the image they’ve created. To me, that’s almost like an attack of narcissism.
You know, there’s nothing you can do about your public image. It is what it is. I just try to do things honestly. I guess honesty is what you would call subjective: if you feel good about what you’re doing, yourself, if you figure you’re doing the right thing.
The bottom line is these techniques have hurt our image around the world, the damage they have done to our interests far outweighed whatever benefit they gave us and they are not essential to our national security.
I think valuing what your body can do over how your body looks is the No. 1 advice I would give to young women about how to have healthy body image. It’s not, ‘Do these pants fit?’ It’s ‘Can I do a split?’
As an actor, you have to face the public all the time. It is a job that people fantasies, but it also creates prejudices; these prejudices are the scariest things. People judge a personal life or your image, and it can affect the characters I play. Therefore, I try not to showcase my personal life too much.
I always had this childhood image in the back of my mind of this fantastic place where all the things I liked came from; Orson Welles, jazz, all that stuff. Los Angeles is one of those places where somebodies become nobodies and nobodies become somebody.
My name is well known, but my image is not, because the image presented to the public is very twisted and far from reality. So, not many recognize me on the street. And I don’t usually walk around in the streets, either.
When you create a movie, you create something in your image.
Two children of same cruel parent look at one another and see in each other the image of the cruel parent or the image of their past oppressor. This is very much the case between Jew and Arab: It’s a conflict between two victims.
In the United States, man does not feel that he has been torn from the center of creation and suspended between hostileforces. He has built his own world, and it is built in his own image: it is his mirror. But now he cannot recognize himself in his inhumanobjects, nor in his fellows.
To seek after any shape of God, and to assign a form and image to Him, is a proof of man’s folly. For God, whosoever he be (if haply there be any other but the world itself), and in what part soever resident, all sense He is, all sight, all hearing: He is the whole of the life and of the soul, all of Himself.
I hate it when I’m reading a comic, and the dialogue looks like stickers stuck on top to explain what’s going on. For me the best is when your eye goes in a certain point and moves through the composition and then springs out on the dialogue, or gets confused in the image and then goes to the dialogue for an explanation.
We are all created in the image of our Creator – Love itself.
Mary Manin Morrissey
The mass audience doesn’t want to see you if you aren’t perfect. If you don’t look a certain way, if you don’t have big pecs and great skin and the perfect eyes. And it’s unfortunate, because kids are growing up with body image dysmorphia because not everyone is represented on the screen.
All images generated by imaging technology are viewed in a walled-off location not visible to the public. The officer assisting the passenger never sees the image, and the officer viewing the image never interacts with the passenger. The imaging technology that we use cannot store, export, print or transmit images.
When I got into the music industry, I wasn’t focused on being the most famous artist or even getting a majorrecord deal. It was just to make music on my own terms or create my own image, do my own hair, do my own makeup.
One quality of a good songwriter is to be vague. A vague notion, a vague image, but enough to give the listener the opportunity to make more out of what’s being said than is there. That’s the great thing about Bob Dylan‘s songs: We the listeners have made more out of them than he ever intended.
Man is an exception, whatever else he is. If he is not the image of God, then he is a disease of the dust. If it is not true that a divine being fell, then we can only say that one of the animals went entirely off its head.
I’ve always liked people who know me to like me, because I think I’m quite likeable. But people who make up their minds based on the image in the papers or a voice on a pop record? They’re idiots.
My image lends itself a little bit more to the modern fan, sometimes more toward the kids, and I guess more toward the wine drinkers… I mean, I have my own wine, and fans love to pull for people they relate to.
I have never been able to understand the artist whose image never changes.
It is important that the decorum and dignity of the House is upheld at all times. The image of Parliament in the public mind should be one where proceedings, debates and discussions take place with a view to resolve issues through a constructive and co-operative approach.
I don’t hate myself anymore. I used to hate my work, hated that sexy image, hated those pictures of me onstage, hated that big raunchy person. Onstage, I’m acting the whole time I’m there. As soon as I get out of those songs, I’m Tina again.
Think about what people are doing on Facebook today. They’re keeping up with their friends and family, but they’re also building an image and identity for themselves, which in a sense is their brand. They’re connecting with the audience that they want to connect to. It’s almost a disadvantage if you’re not on it now.
Middle school was probably my hardest time. I was trying to fit in for so long, until about junior year of high school when I realized that trying to fit into this one image of perfection was never going to make me happy.
A book begins with an image or character or situation that I care about deeply.
I don’t get it. If you’re saying, Tommy Lee, you don’t fit the image of the East Coast, social elitistwealthy people who comprise Harvard, the only thing I can say is you have no idea what comprises Harvard.
I don’t write from dreams because I don’t remember mine, but I had a fragment of an image left about twins, whose father was telling them how their lives were going to go for the next eight years. I wrote a scene about that, and then another and then another and then another, and after five months I had 732 pages.
Here’s the reality. The image of a white Jesus has been used to justify enslavement, conquest, colonialism, the genocide of indigenous peoples. There are literally millions of human beings whose lives have been snuffed out by people who conquered under the banner of a white god.
I obviously want to give a healthy body image to my own daughter. I think having good examples, eating properly, that’s all one can do – and just be really loving around her. I’ve tried to give her confidence in who she is. I think she’s all right in the confidence department.
Why is it surprising that scientists might have long hair and wear cowboy boots? In fields like neuroscience, where the events you are recording are so minute, I suspect scientists cultivate a boring, reliable image. A scientist with a reputation for flamboyance might be suspect.
When I used to perform weddings, the image I always had was the image of a triangle, in which there are two partners and then there is this third force, this third being, that emerges out of the interaction of these two. The third one is the one that is the shared awareness that lies behind the two of them.
Once the image was in the digital environment, one of the problems was, we had no means to reproduce the color spectrum, grey scale, and contrast that film produces, without converting the digital file to film, evaluating it, then going back and changing the digital image.
I bristle a little when the argument for film gets put into the nostalgiaghetto. Film is still the highest quality and best-looking image capture medium available. I don’t think it always will be. The digital image will get better, and it will eventually surpass the quality of the film image, but it isn’t there yet.
I’ve learned a lot about stage-managing for illustration. Sometimes you have to delete characters from a scene just to keep from overcrowding the image. I’ve also learned to making big-scale design decisions early.
A journalist is supposed to present an unbiased portrait of an event, a view devoid of intimate emotions. This is impossible, of course. The framing of an image, by its very composition, represents a choice. The photographer chooses what to show and what to exclude.
If the only way a library can offer an Internet exhibit about the New Deal is to hire a lawyer to clear the rights to every image and sound, then the copyright system is burdening creativity in a way that has never been seen before because there are no formalities.
I never starved. And you know, whatever talent I have, I’ve relied on that, versus image or star. I have just said, ‘Hire me if you want somebody good.’ I tried to be as good as I could be every time out, and that’s kind of bridged the decades.
London cabs always dis me. I purposefully give them a good tip because I’m trying to straighten up the image where they don’t want to pick up some shady-looking, bummy kid like myself. I’m trying to teach them that if you pick up the bummy-looking kid, you still get tipped, man. But they still jerk me around.
I’ve loved men that wear un-ironed clothes, it doesn’t make me fall out of love. When you love someone, you should see beyond their image. It just makes me want to iron their shirt. But once you love a person, they could wear a garbage bag!
It’s an image that the media has given me as a bad girl, and the only reason they gave me that image is just because of the few things that have gone wrong in my life, and also because I grew up living in a trailer.
I keep the bad-boy image just to make my fans happy.
For example, in painting the form arises from abstract elements of line and color, while in cinema the material concreteness of the image within the frame presents – as an element – the greatest difficulty in manipulation.
I remember a picture on the front page of the ‘Sun’ during the Brixton riots: a rasta guy with a petrolbomb, and a headline saying something like: ‘The Future of Britain.’ And I thought: ‘Wow! Look at the power of that image,’ and I wanted to get behind the camera to make these people three-dimensional.
There’s a discipline. When you take someone’s portrait, you don’t have to take 50 photographs, just find that one so that when you release the shutter, that’s the image that you took.
One of my favorite episodes was the one in which Homer grew hair. That was a very unique episode, since there was a gay secretary, but that wasn’t even the issue of the show-the issue was Homer’s image changing because he had hair.
Well, when I think of steroids I think of an image. You have the advantage over someone, which is a form of cheating. I guess it wouldn’t be right unless it was legal for everybody. Reason it’s not legal for everybody is because it can hurt people seriously.
If you take myth and folklore, and these things that speak in symbols, they can be interpreted in so many ways that although the actual image is clear enough, the interpretation is infinitely blurred, a sort of enormous rainbow of every possible colour you could imagine.
Diana Wynne Jones
A visual image in the hand of an artist is merely a tool to trigger a mental image.
I take cabs if I need to get somewhere or I take car service. I don’t drive, I wouldn’t mind riding a bike… People think that because you become an entertainer you gotta have this rock star thug image. I’m an artist, man. I’m going to live like an artist.
In the 20 long, hungry years between my late teens and late 30s I bought in to virtually every new diet and/or exercise regime that hoved into view, particularly at this most vulnerable time for those of us prone to poor body image – a new year.
When I first sat down with my oncologist the day before Thanksgiving, and she told me I would need 8 rounds of chemo, one of my first questions admittedly was: ‘Will I lose my hair?’ It sounds shallow, I know, but it was a very scary image to me.
The one image that’s been causing a lot of discussion is one image that I shot of a man falling head-first from the building, before the buildings fell down. He was trapped in the fire, and decided to jump and take his own life, rather than being burned.
I want adventure in my life. I want to do things I haven’t done before. These Hollywood people are so careful of their image and looking right, but there’s a wildness when I come into the photographs. I just want to wade through rivers, climb mountains.
When you become a celebrity, the world owns you and your image.
In the ‘Nude Descending a Staircase,’ I wanted to create a static image of movement: movement is an abstraction, a deduction articulated within the painting, without our knowing if a real person is or isn’t descending an equally real staircase.
